On July 1 St. Peter’s will welcome a new pastor. Yun Kim comes to us from the Korean United Methodist Church of Greater Washington where he has served as an associate pastor for the past year. Prior to that he served 6 years at a small church near Winchester. Yun and his wife, Jenny, have two daughters, Emily (11) and Abigail (7).
Pastor Debra’s last Sunday will be June 24. After 9 years at St. Peter’s, she has been appointed to Harmony UMC near Leesburg. Be sure to come out on the 24th to wish Debra and Boyd farewell and Godspeed.
The United Methodist system of itinerant ministry is a “sent” system. The resident Bishop and a group of advisers decide when and where preachers are appointed, or sent.
The preacher’s task is to spread the Word of God, administer the Sacraments, and give oversight to the life and mission of the faith community. Strong lay leadership plays a vital role in maintaining the health of the church. The Methodist system differs from other denominations that operate on a “called” system. In those churches the congregation conducts a search for a pastor, calls the pastor, and decides when the pastor’s tenure ends.
On July 1 be sure to come out to welcome Pastor Kim and his family and share in light refreshments after church.
